Financial Unity in Marriage: A 3-Day Biblical Guide

DAY 3 OF 3

Hey Friend,

Today, let's chat about something that might seem counterintuitive when it comes to marital finances:

Generosity.

You might be thinking, "Wait a minute, shouldn't we be focused on saving and budgeting?" Well, yes, but hear me out.

There's this great verse in 2 Corinthians 9:7 that says, "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

And this isn't just about dropping money in the offering plate on Sunday.

It's about cultivating a generous spirit in your marriage, and it can revolutionize how you view and handle money together.

When you and your spouse decide together to be generous - whether it's supporting a cause you both believe in, helping out a friend in need, or contributing to your community - something amazing happens…

You start focusing less on what you can get and more on what you can give.

It's like shifting your financial gears from 'accumulate' to 'appreciate and allocate.'

But let's be real - being generous isn't always easy, especially when money is tight.

And that’s where shifting from our human perspective to God’s is so helpful.

Jesus talked about this in Matthew 6:19-21, saying, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth... But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

This isn't about ignoring your financial responsibilities. It's about seeing the bigger picture.

When you view your finances through the lens of eternity, it can help you and your spouse prioritize what's truly important.

Try this: Next time you're discussing your budget, include a 'giving' category.

Start small if you need to. The amount isn't as important as the heart behind it.

Talk about causes or people you'd like to support together and you’ll discover a new level of joy and purpose to your financial partnership as you converse.

Remember, being generous together isn't just about the impact you can make outside your marriage.

It can also bring you closer as a couple, aligning your values and reminding you that, in the end, it's not about the money - it's about what you do with it that counts.

Let's pray: Gracious God, thank You for the resources You've entrusted to us. Help us to manage our finances with wisdom, honesty, and generosity. Guide us in making decisions that honor You and strengthen our marriage. May our approach to money reflect Your values and draw us closer to each other and to You.

In Jesus name, Amen.

As we wrap up today, consider this: money should never hold you back from the dreams God has put on your heart. And I’d love to help you design a financial blueprint that not only helps you save more and pay off debt but amplifies your earning power and generosity. No extreme budgeting, no living on ramen, or taking on 3 side jobs—just a practical path to true financial freedom. Click here for the details.
