Advent: The Good News of Christmas

DAY 3 OF 4

Qabel: receive, greet, or take or accept what has been given

A familiar Christmas carol, “O Come All Ye Faithful,” is a favorite that is sung throughout the Advent season. Let’s look at one word in particular from the song - greet. The word in Hebrew is “Qabel.” It translates in English to “receive, greet, or to take or accept what has been given.”

The beginning of the fourth verse says, “Yea, Lord we greet Thee born this happy morning…” If we look at the word “greet,” we see a much deeper meaning than what we think is a greeting to someone we meet. Are we saying “Hello Jesus, so glad You’re here,” or are we truly greeting our Lord and Savior into our lives? Are we receiving Him? Joy to the world, the Lord has come! Let Earth receive her King!

John tells us that if we receive (take or accept what has been given) and welcome Jesus into our lives, He then gives us the privilege of becoming children of God. All we must do is receive Him! Praise God! So this Christmas, greet Jesus, receive your King, and walk into your role as King’s kids!

Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, for Your best gift of Jesus! May we never disregard Your gift, for it is the most precious, costly gift we freely receive. Lord, help us to greet Jesus each and every day with joy and thankfulness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
