The Power of Redeemed Identity

DAY 9 OF 9

Day 9 - Redeemed Identity – Don’t Forget Your “A-B-C’s”!

Thus far in our study of Redeemed Identity, we have covered a number of topics, including:

- Redeemed From Identity Thefts

- Redeemed From the Orphan Spirit

- The key of Forgiveness and Freedom

- Redeemed Identity Releases Divine Purpose

…and more!

Our foundational truth is found in 2 Corinthians 5:21, speaking of the power of the Redemption that Jesus Christ accomplished for all those who trust in him:

21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God [emphasis added].

Did you see what God did for you and me 2000 years ago? It was the greatest Identity Swap in history. There have been popular movies made about people impersonating others, or trading places with others who perhaps bore them a great resemblance, taking on their personalities, habits, and histories. That makes for some interesting fiction. But God’s Redemption Plan goes so much further: the sinless Son of God did not just take on our sin, legally satisfying the righteous justice of Father God by the perfect sacrifice of Himself, he was actually made to be sin itself on our behalf – how amazing! And why?

So that we could have a brand-new “Redeemed Identity” – transforming us into the very Righteousness of God. This new Redeemed Identity is a free gift of Grace, and cannot be earned. It is imparted to us when we repent of our sins and embrace the finished work of the cross as our only and all-sufficient hope of eternal salvation. The lifelong work of progressive sanctification actually begins here. This “identity swap” is not something we work up to by doing good works, as some may think – it is our starting point! Knowing this truth can save you from a lifetime of unnecessary (and frustrating) self-effort! We begin the divine journey with receiving the free gift of an imparted identity and continue to become progressively conformed to God’s image as we yield ourselves to the discipleship process. Both sides of this amazing truth are indispensable.

So, how do we incorporate the realities of our new creation Redeemed Identity in a practical way? Simple! Just remember your scriptural “A-B-C’s”…remember that you are –

- Accepted in the Beloved – Eph. 1:6

- Beloved by the Father – I John 3:1-3

- Chosen – Eph. 1:4

That would be enough to set you on a new course of joy and increased confidence…but here are some more, to get you started on your journey! Remember as well that you are some very important things:

- Adopted – Eph.1:5

- Blessed – Eph. 1:3

- Crowned – II Timothy 4:8, James 1:12

As you read these and take time to meditate on them, they will gradually take root more deeply in your thinking. In turn, your self-image will change from one of inferiority, rejection, etc., to one of healthy self-acceptance, based on the eternal truths of scripture. You will find yourself more comfortable in your own skin, and more ready to be a light to others which is what God wants! God bless you as you pursue Him, and thank you for taking the time to complete this study!

Prayer:

“Thank you Lord for the amazing gift of a Redeemed Identity! Help me walk in these truths; make me more like you. Amen!”
