Overflowing: Living Abundantly in a Broken Culture

DAY 6 OF 7

Spiritual Wardrobe

With your mindset securely on God and the things most important to Him, Paul encourages us to put on our daily spiritual “wardrobe” of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We must also choose forgiveness and always walk in love.

You should take into consideration who you will be with, what the occasion requires, and what you know you shouldn’t leave home without. If you don’t thoughtfully and intentionally choose the vital components of your spiritual wardrobe, you will never put these divine traits on. You will likely go into circumstances and deal with relationships ill-prepared and underdressed. You must put on all that God has advised and provided for. You simply must.

When you incorporate these important traits into your life and decide to trust God, regardless of your circumstances…what is there to do next? The one wonderful option left is to make a list of your undeserved blessings and then to thank the Lord loudly and often.

Thanksgiving Is Not a Holiday

As believers in Jesus Christ, we should be the most thankful people on the planet. A heart of thanksgiving is the quickest route to victory in every area of your wonderful life. Be effusive but sincere with your compliments; write thank you notes, sweet text messages, and appreciative emails. Make phone calls that are filled with praise and gratitude for others in your life. Set coffee dates and lunch appointments for the express purpose of telling someone else how grateful you are for their life.

Be especially bold in your thanksgiving for family members, loved ones, and closest friends. There are times when we are guilty of taking for granted those for whom we should be the most grateful.

We should awake in the morning with a song of praise on our lips and go to bed at night, counting our many blessings. Rather than focus on your troubles and lack, take a deep breath and begin to remember all God has done for you and in you.

Thankfulness is the most dynamic and authoritative choice a believer can make. Gratitude changes the atmosphere and wins victories. Acknowledgment of the goodness of God will set your destiny and open amazing doors of opportunity.

When a son or daughter of God spends time in His presence and simply says, “Thank You, Dad,” there will be strength for today and hope for tomorrow.
