The Holy Spirit Explained - Part II

DAY 4 OF 5

The Unified Body of Christ

With the arrival of the Holy Spirit, there has been a significant shift in how God interacts with His people and the world. Previously, the Holy Spirit's presence was a special mark given to certain leaders, prophets, and judges, setting them apart for God’s work. Now, every believer, whether new to the faith or seasoned in it, is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. This shared presence of the Spirit is a common experience for all who belong to Christ.

This transformation also redefines the collective body of believers, known as the church. In earlier times, Israel was the primary channel through which God’s truth was revealed to the world. His covenant and promises were centered on the nation of Israel. However, with the establishment of the church, made up of both Jews and Gentiles, God’s wisdom is now being made known through this united body.

Paul discusses this mystery in Ephesians 3, where he reveals that the church is now how God’s plan is unveiled to the world. The barrier between Jew and Gentile has been removed, and together they form one body in Christ. This unified church stands as the foundation and pillar of truth in the world. Through the church, God’s eternal purpose is being fulfilled, and His truth is actively being expressed.

This understanding highlights the vital role we play as members of the church. We are more than individuals saved by grace; we are participants in a divine plan where God’s wisdom and truth are displayed through our collective witness. The Holy Spirit, who dwells within each believer, equips us to live out the mission of bringing the message of Christ to the world.

You may not realize how God has equipped you to serve in His kingdom, but it doesn’t mean He hasn’t gifted you. This is a process to be worked out in a local church with other believers who can encourage you and by the Holy Spirit, guide you into seeing how God has uniquely gifted you. When believers understand their calling and walk in it, there isn’t room for pride, for the true love of Jesus shines in the way each member serves one another.
