Loving God With All Your Heart

DAY 3 OF 7

Growing in knowledge and spiritual understanding

“We have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” (Colossians 1:9)

Becoming a Christian only takes a moment. But becoming a mature Christian takes much more time.

The Bible compares people who have just come to faith to babies. They need milk to grow. Similarly, young believers need teaching. They are still “inexperienced in the word of righteousness.” But they are meant to grow. In time, they become spiritually mature. Then they receive “solid food” for the purpose “… to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ.” (Colossians 2:2)

This growth does not happen automatically. You will have to make an effort to read the Bible, try to understand what you read (possibly with the help of other believers), have your worldview transformed and your life adapted to God's commands. That process is not always easy. It sometimes requires sacrifices when you have to invest time or unlearn certain habits. For you are not only a Christian in church, nor only on Sundays. You are a Christian every moment of every day, in every aspect of your life.

Do you see spiritual growth in your life? How can you foster that growth?
