Truth Be Told

DAY 1 OF 21

In John 18:28-38, we witness one of the most profound moments in history. Jesus, the Son of God, stands before Pilate, the Roman governor, in what appears to be a trial. The Jewish leaders accused Jesus of crimes deserving of death and brought Him to Pilate to secure Roman execution. As the questioning unfolds, Pilate asks a question that echoes through the ages: "What is truth?"

This question is more than a rhetorical device. It reveals a deep skepticism and confusion that still permeates our world today. Pilate, like many people, struggles to understand the nature of truth. Is it something flexible, something that can be molded to fit our desires and circumstances? Or is it something absolute, unchanging, and solid?

Jesus, standing before Pilate, offers a silent yet powerful answer. He doesn’t respond with a philosophical argument or a lengthy discourse. Instead, He embodies the truth. Earlier in His ministry, Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). This statement was not just a bold claim but a profound revelation of His identity. Jesus is the truth—absolute, unchanging, and eternal.

In our world, truth is often regarded as subjective. Many believe that what is true for one person may not be true for another, and that truth can change depending on circumstances or feelings. This relativistic view of truth leads to confusion, division, and a lack of solid ground to stand on. But Jesus shows us that truth is not just a set of ideas or a moral code. Truth is a person—Jesus Christ.

When we look to Jesus, we find a truth that is consistent and reliable. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His words are life-giving, His teachings are solid, and His presence is our anchor in a world that is constantly shifting. To know Jesus is to know the truth, and this truth sets us free (John 8:32).

As you reflect on this passage today, consider what it means to see Jesus as the truth in your life. How does this understanding shape your view of the world, your decisions, and your relationships? Are there areas in your life where you’ve been swayed by the world’s changing definitions of truth? How can you anchor yourself more deeply in the truth of Jesus?

Take some time to pray and ask God to reveal His truth to you in a fresh way. Ask Him to help you see Jesus more clearly and to align your life with His unchanging truth. As you walk in this truth, may you find peace, direction, and the confidence to stand firm in a world that desperately needs to know the truth that is found in Jesus.
