Catching Fire: The Power of Our Words

DAY 8 OF 15

Old habits are hard to change. We can feel like we’re stuck in old patterns and believe we’ll always be the way we are right now—or we hope that there will be one day we’ll wake up and instantly be changed without having to do much work to make it that way. But the truth is that change takes time and usually happens incrementally. The bigger question isn’t whether we can change or be transformed, but, as this verse puts it, are we allowing ourselves to live in a way where we make ourselves open to change and transformation?

To be transformed means to stay humble, to stay curious, and to stay open to the Holy Spirit at work in you and through you. It means knowing we are on an endless journey of growth and maturity—if we allow ourselves to be. As we become sensitive to the Holy Spirit at work in our lives, we’ll find the habits that used to make us no longer have the control they used to, and we’ll be able to see what God desires more easily. What are some areas you have experienced transformation in your life? What are some areas in which you would like to experience more transformation?

Catching Fire: The Power of Our Words

Words are complicated tools to which we all have access. The question is: How do we use them best? How do we harness their power and become agents of good with our words?
