God's Attributes Reflected in Us

DAY 15 OF 19

People are weak

“As a father shows compassion to His children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.” (Psalm 103:13-14)

The Lord God made us human beings out of clay. So He knows exactly what to expect from us: not too much. We are not like Him. And He takes that into account. It is not a bad thing that we are limited in our abilities. The Lord God is happy to come to our aid. He takes care of us like a father takes care of a child, as we read in Psalm 103.

It is a bad thing, however, that we are also morally weak. That was not the case in God's original creation. That only came later, when we allowed ourselves to be deceived by God's adversary. From then on, all people became slaves of the devil; unable to make their own, good decisions. And that leads to all kinds of misery, eventually even death.

When we turned away from our Creator, our weakness became a problem. We thought we could stand on our own two feet, but we can’t! In several Psalms, we read examples of this:

“Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint” (Psalm 6:2)

“Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also.” (Psalm 31:10)

Do you experience that you are a weak and frail person? Are you willing to ask the Lord God for help?

About this Plan

God's Attributes Reflected in Us

God created humans “in His image.” This means that in a sense we resemble our Creator. But to what extent is this still true? And to what extent has sin broken this image of God? This reading plan examines various attributes of God and how they are reflected in us.
