The Purpose of Christmas

DAY 8 OF 15

God’s timing can be tricky to understand. That’s especially true in our world. We live in an age of immediacy. Everything—literally everything—is available at our fingertips. We get what we want when we want it, and when we have to wait, we give up and find a better, more immediate option. But God’s timing doesn’t work that way. God’s timing isn’t about quick fixes or immediate answers. It’s about the right thing happening at the right time. The Christmas story shows us just that!

Jesus’ arrival didn’t come at the time anyone expected. People waited thousands of years for their Savior, and the circumstances under which He finally showed up weren’t at all what anyone expected. And yet, just at the right time—God’s time—Jesus showed up. When we struggle to see or understand God’s timing in our lives, we can look back to this very first Christmas to remember that God is always, always working. That timing can be trusted because it’s higher and better than our own. And more than that, it can be trusted because it demonstrates God’s good heart, which is always at work for us.

Today, thank God for His timing in your life. Pray that you will remember Jesus’ arrival came at the perfect time as you look to understand God’s timing in your life today.
