Same. Still. Strong.

DAY 2 OF 3

Break Away; Be STILL

“Be still and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.” – Psalm 46:10 (NLT)

Elijah had a great victory over 450 prophets of Baal. He called down fire from heaven, proved that there is a God and outran chariots with his own two feet.

Now the moment has passed. His life is in danger, which makes him a wanted man hiding in the desert. He seeks God and is led to a mountain where he overnights in a cave. In his search after God, for renewed meaning and strength, he faces storms, earthquakes and fire, but God speaks in a soft whisper. Just like in each of our lives.

In our struggle for and rush of life, in the storms and stumbling, we too must get perspective regularly.

Elijah also reminds God of his ‘glory days’ which was just the other day (1 Kings 18:20-19:8). Elijah comes off a massive high in his life, but likely did not see the same outcome he had hope for. We are often the most vulnerable not in the valley, but on the peaks. And often we experience the desert storm just after a victory, when life gets back to business as usual and we simply have to keep walking again.

Have you ever felt like this?

But God comes and shows Elijah that within the whirlwind of life, between the highs and the lows, He is found in the stillness. God is found when the storms and quakes of the everyday don”t distract us anymore. And then we can refocus.

Life does not only happen on the highs, but in the valleys, too. You have to break away to the Most High to be still and regain your focus. We always have a clearer vision from a higher vantage point. Here we get to also regain our strength to keep on and keep going (Isaiah 40:12-31).

Break away daily and be still. Don’t wait for the highs or the lows.

Remember, even in the midst of the storms and struggles, you can still break away and be still to recalibrate...
