DAY 1 OF 3

Grace Is Enough

Written by Faith Schiller

Day 1: No One Has Enough

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you didn't have enough? Maybe you’ve been in seasons where finances are tight, and you’ve had to choose between keeping the lights on or putting gas in the car. Maybe you’ve encountered a moment with a child or a significant other where you couldn't give the time and attention they needed. Maybe work has required too much from you, and you’ve come to the end of yourself, exhausted and burnt out.

No matter how independent or self-sufficient we claim to be, if we’re honest with ourselves, we all have moments where we don’t have enough. In those moments of inadequacy, it is easy for shame to take hold, and our experience of not having enough can quickly become a feeling of not being enough. Shame has a way of turning our shortfalls into deep wounds.

Thankfully, scripture has a lot to say about not having enough and how fear of not being enough can place shame on us. Biblical authors clarify that every human does not have enough; it's the human condition. Every one of us has missed the mark when it comes to living up to God’s standards. You won't ever have enough because none of us do.

While this might seem discouraging to hear, two pieces of good news are tucked into this seemingly tough thought. First, you are not alone in your experience of inadequacy. All of us have fallen short and missed the mark, not just you! While you might feel like a failure or a screw-up, every single one of us doesn’t have enough and cannot be enough. You’re not the only one.

Second, God has a plan to pay for all of what you need, not just what you can’t cover on your own. Over the next few days, we’ll explore this second piece of good news a bit more to see what this means for us and our relationships with others and the world around us.

Next Step
Today, watch this short video called Price Check and consider what it means to know you're not the only one who doesn’t have enough.
