Deeply Rooted

DAY 5 OF 7

Rocky Soil

God is working in and through us even when we can’t see it. The enemy is doing everything he can to distract and discourage. I encourage you with this - God is establishing a deeper root system to sustain you during a “rest and repair” season. Even if your season feels unproductive, He is doing a deeper work.

The Lord will lead you into each season by His faithfulness. He has prepared each place where you can lift your eyes and look upon each day as being specially crafted just for you. He stands by us in times of endurance, knowing what’s in store for each of us. He urges us forward when we get discouraged and distracted. There are no failures because His love doesn’t keep score.

When you love the Lord more than your ambition, you’ll see that a “rest and repair” season isn’t unproductive or lacking direction. He has no hidden agenda and doesn’t want strife for you. Be open to His teaching to thrive and stride with Him at His pace. Forgo your understanding to simply trust Him for the growth He wants to bless you with.

Our Gardner—God—must come into our heart’s soil to excavate the rocks, the hardened places, and sin from our lives. Our soil has been dramatically impacted by evil (Jeremiah 17:9). You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. Colossians 2:13-14

Our sin must be removed before new life can take root.

Another verse about the “old you” is Galatians 6:8, Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. Because of Christ’s work on the cross, we are no longer bound to our sinful nature. We have been set free from sin’s hold over us and are redesigned and more alive than ever before.

Sadly, many people don’t allow the Holy Spirit to grow and infuse His power past the surface level. Many Christians begin passionate and on fire for God, but some are eventually strangled by life’s distractions. A person who builds a deep, strong root system builds for eternal gain.

About this Plan

Deeply Rooted

Your spiritual root system can’t survive with shallow roots. We’re to grow deep into God and take seriously the responsibility to produce fruit in God’s kingdom. With all the multiplying distractions in the world, it’s easy to let our roots grow into shallow, self-serving disciplines. To be consistent in our spiritual growth and remain faithful, allow God to develop your roots to reach a deeper level.
