100 Days of HopeSample
God’s Glorious Riches
People want to be rich, preferably having overflowing riches. The Bible shows many scriptures related to overflowing riches (e.g., Psalms 23:5; Proverbs 3:9, 10; Psalms 65:11) Elsewhere in the Bible, there are scriptures related to overflowing of spiritual matters. They include joy (2 Cor. 8:2) and expressions of thanksgiving (2 Cor. 9:12).
But one requirement must be met for us to experience the promise of overflowing spiritual riches. We must be willing to see our lives as a container filled up to the brim with God’s blessing.
In essence, “overflowing” translates to generosity given in gratitude. Often, when we have less, we better experience the promise of overflowing spiritual wealth. Less can distract us from His gift of grace. And we overflow, desiring to give of ourselves to others.
For those of us with more materially, our desire for things other than a relationship with our Father can distract us from Him. Therefore we miss experiences to overflow with His grace. It is important for us, as Christians, to make a conscious effort to focus on His gifts so that we give radically, both spiritually and materially.
Christ’s riches for us are far beyond our imagination. The quoted scripture refers to it as “His glorious riches.” Through His glorious riches we overflow—being generous to others while maintaining a heart of gratitude. These riches can be found in Christ Jesus who is in you and me. May we all fully and abundantly enjoy His glorious riches in our lives.
Prayer: Father, may we live lives of gratitude toward you and overflow with your overwhelming grace. Thank you for the radical way in which you have come to earth to die for us.
