Baptism in the Holy Spirit

DAY 4 OF 4

The effect of the baptism of the Holy Spirit

When during Pentecost the Holy Spirit was poured out, not everyone was standing and listening obediently. In Acts 4:1-21 we can read how the priests marveled when they heard Peter and the others speak. They wanted the disciples to be silent about the Name of Jesus, but they outright refused. What a boldness! And even if they wanted to be silent, they ‘couldn’t be still anymore’. They couldn’t stop talking about the Name of Jesus!

When you get the Spirit upon you, you become very bold and free.

Because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)

Then you aren’t afraid of rejection, persecution, or slander. You are on fire for Jesus! We haven’t received a Spirit that leads back to fear, but a Spirit of boldness and power! (Romans 8:15).

The baptism in the Holy Spirit gives you boldness. You are set on fire! You dare to speak openly about the Savior, you no longer care about what anyone thinks or says or does.

The only thing that you want to preach to the whole world is: ‘Jesus is real and He loves you, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, hallelujah!’

The goal of the Holy Spirit is to get you to witness. The ‘power’ of the Holy Spirit ‘upon’ you establishes many characteristics that among other things, help you to witness:

  • Speaking in tongues (Acts 2:4)
  • Boldness to witness (Acts 1:8)
  • Gift to prophesy (Acts 2:17-18)
  • Authority to proclaim healing in His Name (Mark 16:17-18)
  • Authority to baptize in His Name (Matthew 28:19)
  • Authority to cast out demons in His Name (Matthew 10:8)
  • Authority to raise the dead in His Name (Matthew 10:8)

As you can see, most of it is meant to serve others. That is something else than the Holy Spirit ‘in’ you, which is for your personal life and the upbuilding of your faith life. Those are two different things.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit makes you His witness! In Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. In your street, at work, in the neighborhood, in the city and in all the world!

And not only will we be His witnesses, no, everywhere we come we will lay hands on the sick and they will be healed!

But that is for another lesson.

How amazing that we may go out for King Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit!
