Lift Your Head Up

DAY 3 OF 3

My Help Comes from Heaven

As a society, we know that there is a number we can call if we find ourselves in trouble. The person on the other end of the line can send us assistance in case of a medical emergency, a safety issue, or a security breach. But what do we do when the worry is inside of us? When anxiety is present in the middle of the day? When hopelessness and fear take over, and it seems there will not be a tomorrow?

The psalmist says, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1–2). The psalmist knew he could not place his hope on the hills because no one was coming from there to rescue him. His eyesight needed to go higher, to the heavens, to the unseen Lord who created those very hills and the people threatening the psalmist.

When we believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, we are born again into the kingdom of light. In this kingdom, things run differently than in our world. “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). As the Holy Spirit empowers us to walk in the righteousness allocated to us by God’s grace, we fellowship with Him and experience His peace. Joy is a by-product of walking in His presence (Psalm 16:11).

Worry, anxiety, hopelessness, and fear do not belong in God’s kingdom. They result from not believing what the Lord has spoken in His Word. Faith in the Word of God brings us rest. The apostle Paul invites us to make every effort to enter the rest that comes from believing God. When we have faith in God's words, we experience His rest. With faith in God, we won’t become like the Israelites who never truly trusted God’s ability to deliver them into His promised land.

As we believe our help comes from above, hope comes from expecting to see with our eyes what our faith sees in our spirit. Peace will win over fear and doubt as we realize that God has the power to save us. And joy will spring up like a river washing down all unbelief.

Heavenly Father, I won’t fear, for You are with me; I will not dismay, for You are my God; You will strengthen me; You will help me; You will uphold me with Your righteous right hand. Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

Lift Your Head Up

Finding ourselves in a situation where we feel trapped, with no apparent way out, is challenging. Perhaps you’ve experienced a time when you said, “There’s just no possible way out of here.” But God, in His unwavering faithfulness, is always there to rescue us. He lifts our heads from despair, enabling us to shift our focus to His glorious presence.
