How to Read the BibleSample
The Most Important Tip
I’ve tried to give you some helpful tips this week for reading the Bible:
- Get a good study Bible.
- Follow a plan that works for you (time and Bible reading plan).
- Understand the big picture.
- Ask the two most important questions.
- Respect the genre.
But I’ve left out the most important tip, which is this:
Don’t give up.
Believe me, you will be tempted to give up. Life will get busy. Some days, reading the Bible will feel hard. You won’t always get something out of what you read. You will miss a day or get to a part of the Bible that doesn’t interest you, and you will simply want to give up.
Don’t do it.
Every godly man I know has developed the discipline of regular Bible reading. Some do it using an app; others use paper. Some listen to the Bible; some read it. Some do it alone; others read as a part of a group.
Every one of them sometimes finds reading the Bible hard. They get busy. They miss the odd day here and there. But they keep returning to the lifelong, consistent pattern of getting to know God better through Scripture.
With God’s help, become one of these men. Refuse to give up when it’s hard. Keep seeking God through the Bible; you will find God changing you from the inside out.
Keep reading, and never give up.
Prayer: Lord, help me to treasure Your Word. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: How can you keep going even when you feel like giving up?
