Mindsets That Hurt v Heal

DAY 1 OF 7

TRANSFORMATION & RENEWING

Romans 12:2 speaks about being transformed by the renewing of the mind. The Greek word for "Transform" is "metamorphoō," which means to change into another form. The biblical meaning of renewal means to "renovate, a complete change for the better." Therefore, one must renovate one's thinking process to change into another form. However, as Craig Groesel once said, "You cannot defeat what you haven't defined." The goal, therefore, of this reading plan is to identify mindsets that hurt versus heal. As a pastoral counsellor, I hear the stories of mindsets that have caused much hurt in the lives of others. Mindsets that have become realities.

Your thoughts become your beliefs,

Your beliefs become your truth,

Your truth becomes your story,

Your story becomes your reality.”

If someone believes they are unlovable, they can behave in a way that makes it hard for others to love them. Their story becomes their reality.

Humans have an average of 60,000 thoughts daily; 85% are negative, and 95% are repetitive. The brain processes over 11 million bits of information per second; however, we are only consciously aware of 50 of them. In other words, we will generally "only see" what we are looking for because the mind can gather any evidence to back up the story it is already telling itself. Hence, if you believe you don't belong, you will only notice all the actions around you that prove your fear. As the saying goes:

I am not what I think I am

I am not what you think I am

I am what I think - you think - I am.

This is why owning our mindsets and fixing them on our position, authority and value according to God's truth will bring liberation living. We know that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind.

Over the next six days, we will unpack six mindsets that hurt and align them to biblical truths taken from Philippians 4:6-9 that bring healing and wholeness. I encourage you to read these verses in preparation for this journey.

Reflective Questions:

  • What types of mindsets do you struggle the most with?
  • What area of your life are you hoping to find freedom from worries in?

Pray:

Jesus, I thank You that new life is found in You. I pray that as I embark on this journey with You of renewing my mind, You will shine Your light onto the lies and deceptions that have been robbing me of living in the fullness of life You have for me. Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

Mindsets That Hurt v Heal

This reading plan examines six mindsets that hurt rather than heal. Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The mind is the enemy's battlefield; owning this space is crucial to finding healing and wholeness.
