IT’S TIME to FLY a 7-Day Devotion by Joy A. WilliamsSample
Grace Sufficiency
When our son was little, kite flying was our idea of family fun. The first few times on our adventure, our son wondered out loud, “How high will the kite go?” My husband or I would say, “As high as the wind takes it.”
As we seek to FLY, we need a gust of godly wind to carry us. There is no better force than God’s grace. It is the gift of His underserved favor to grant us salvation through Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). Even with the weight of what concerns us, surely God’s grace is enough to keep us lifted. When an obstacle to His plan appears, He takes us through it, takes us over it, or takes it away (Isaiah 43:1-2).
I continue to learn the benefit of trusting His divine maneuvers. But God is not deciding on a solution as a problem appears. As the Sovereign God, He had the solution before a difficulty happens (Ecclesiastes 3:11). In our family kite flying, eventually the wind would shift or die down, crashing the kite to the ground. When the wind was strong and the kite was high, if we let go, it would go higher. Eventually, it went out of our sight. (Hence we lost one or two.)
Untethered to our control, the kite would do its own thing. It was the thing it couldn’t do as long as we held on. Similarly, in life, we encounter situations we need to release so they can go higher in God’s grace.
As you lean on the Lord, is there something you need to let go? When it’s time to FLY, it’s time to grow through our discomfort and rise to the height of God’s will. As we prayerfully seek His help, He often sends His ambassadors. Support from compassionate family, friends, or others in the Christian faith community can become earthly comfort directed by heaven’s throne. As life unfolds, leaning into God’s grace and truth frees us from the grip of what hinders His flight plan for our lives.
FLY: What else (or who else) do you lean on instead of leaning on God’s grace in Christ? How does it help you or hold you back from His purpose?
PRAY: Lord thank You for lifting me from what holds me down. I release what I’ve longed to control and I lean solely upon Your grace. Help me to grow through my discomfort and rise to the height of Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
About this Plan
When facing a new task or a new season in life, we may experience a time of uncertainty. However, walking by faith includes learning how to FLY. It’s an acronym for Fear Not, Lean Hard, and Yield Completely to God’s will for our lives. This 7-day plan offers insight and encouragement to help you trust God and embrace His truth when it’s time to FLY.
