DAY 2 OF 5

"’Why can’t we live in a square house like everyone else?’ Fynn would often ask his dad. And his dad would just smile and say . . . ‘Because, son, we are not like everyone else. We are special.’ Fynn didn’t really understand how living in a round house with a big lightbulb on top made his family special."

It can be very tempting to look at others and compare ourselves. They have this, and I don’t. They can do this, but I can’t. Comparison is a real thief of joy. It will sneak into your mind and make you feel like what you have or who you are is not enough. This is why God often tells us not to compare but to be grateful for everything. He tells us in the Bible that a heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones (Proverbs 14:30)

Here’s what we can do instead: We can look to God to tell us who we are: His beloved children who are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” We can also practice gratitude every day. Gratitude kicks the comparison thief in the face.

In my wrestling and in my doubts
In my failures You won't walk out
Your great love will lead me through

Activity:

Draw a self-portrait or print your favorite photo of yourself. Write what you love about yourself and what you are grateful for. It could be your smile, your laugh, your family, your bedroom, or even the way your mum cooks lasagna—list as many things as you can!

Pray:

God, thank You for making me who I am and giving me everything I have. Please help me be grateful every day, even when I don’t feel like it.
