Made for More: Finding Greater Purpose Through Scripture's Well-Known Personalities

DAY 1 OF 8

Do you ever get that sinking feeling that you’re on your own? That it’s you against the world, and that you feel very small while the world feels very big?

Gideon knew this feeling. He was the lowest person in his family, which was in the smallest clan in all of Israel. They were under the thumb of an occupying force called the Midianites. No one liked the situation, and everyone secretly hoped God would do something about it and raise up a champion to overthrow their oppressors.

It turns out Gideon, the smallest of them all, would be that champion. Because he was made for more.

He was made for more than seeing his hard work be appropriated and stolen by those who ruled over them. He was made for more than toiling away in obscurity and anonymity. He was made for more than this.

And so God called him, as He calls all of us, to rise up into his true nature. And then God provided the way for Gideon to do just that, even though it didn’t look anything like we would imagine.

Instead of using a mighty fighting force, God pared down Gideon’s army from 32,000 troops down to a mere 300. Yet even though his army was less, Gideon was still made for more.

God came through and used Gideon to deliver the Israelites. This man, the lowest of the lowest, fulfilled God’s promise to his people, completely submitting himself to his calling and letting God do the rest.

When we realize we are made for more, instead of striving to DO more, like Gideon, we can rest in God, follow His lead, and simply BE more.
