Men of the Bible

DAY 3 OF 7

Moses and the compassion of God

From his birth to his death, what we read of Moses’ life is jam-packed full of lessons. Among other things, it’s a story of the incredible compassion of God. It begins as we see the compassion of God as His motivation in speaking to Moses right back at the burning bush. God has seen the affliction of His people, and He asks Moses to lead them to the promised land.

As He prepares Moses to speak to Pharaoh, Moses (as most of us would) has doubts. What if they don’t believe me? I’m not a very good speaker. Despite the protests, God keeps making a way, showing miracles to bring credibility, and partnering Aaron to speak the message. Moses doesn’t seem like the most willing leader, yet God is patient and arms him with everything he needs and is with him through it all.

It’s not a straight-line journey. There was an easier way. Yet, God doesn’t force Moses’ hand. He is patient. He keeps speaking. He keeps making a way. Though it doesn’t end with Moses seeing the land that is promised, God’s ultimate purpose is still fulfilled through the stumbling ways of this man, Moses.

It seems to me that God is still this way with us. He lets us make mistakes, take wrong turns, question Him and complain, yet, if we keep listening to His voice, we can trust that He will make a way to fulfil His purposes.
