The Power of a United Family Vision

DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3: What is Family Direction?

“Where there is no vision the people perish.”

As we've journeyed through two fundamental questions—Who are we? Why are we here?—Now, let's explore the important principle of Family Direction by considering this question: Where are we going?

Many set personal goals, whether in careers, habits, or academics. Yet, not everyone reaches them. Goals, ideally, are like signposts, guiding us on our chosen path. The choices we make determine our direction, impacting various parts of life, from our jobs to our families. Ultimately, the direction you choose influences the leader you become, the playing time you receive, and the grades you make. It's not just about individual pursuits; it shapes the vision and legacy of your family.

When was the last time you considered the direction your family is headed?

Families may find themselves in turmoil, feeling lost among the chaos of life. Remember, Proverbs 29:18 cautions, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” This truth emphasizes the need for a clear direction—a joining of Family Identity and Purpose. With the timeless wisdom found in God's word, this alliance creates a vision, providing clarity on where your family is collectively headed.

Family Direction is more than a path to take; it's the path we get to choose.

Proverbs 22:6 teaches about directing "children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it." Family Direction is the detailed plan for families whose identity and purpose have been directed and divinely set on God’s path! You need a vision for the future, and you also need a roadmap for the road ahead. This is how we intentionally instill values, traditions, and a shared purpose in practical ways in and outside of our homes.

Psalm 32:8 serves as a comforting reminder of God's constant guidance on your family's journey. Your family's direction, grounded in cherished values, contributes to the fulfillment of your collective purpose, ensuring each step authentically reflects who your family is and the purpose God has instilled in you.

Without a clear direction, decisions become scattered, actions lack unity, and achieving long-term family goals becomes a challenging endeavor. Isaiah 42:16 offers reassurance: "I will lead the blind by ways they have not known." This verse beautifully illustrates God's commitment to guiding us through the unknown. While individual direction focuses on personal goals, family direction focuses on shared goals, values, and the legacy your family collectively aims to build—together! So, what’s your family’s future look like?

  1. Consider the current trajectory of your family. What goals, values, and shared purpose are guiding your family's journey?
  2. Consider the legacy your family aims to create. How do your current actions and decisions contribute to the lasting impact your family desires to leave for future generations?
  3. Consider the significance of celebrating milestones and achievements together. How does recognizing and appreciating each other's successes contribute to the positive and supportive environment within your family?
  4. Envision your family's future. How does a long-term perspective, guided by a shared purpose, impact the way you navigate challenges and plan for the future together?
