Recognizing Your Spiritual Strengths
Today it can be easy to focus on our visible attributes and accomplishments while overlooking what may be perceived as unseen strengths that lie within us. The fruit of the Spirit, as described in Galatians 5:22–23, offers us a framework for understanding and embracing these often-untapped inner qualities.
As you consider the list of spiritual fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—reflect on which ones resonate most. Hidden in all of us are spiritual strengths and attributes that make us uniquely equipped to fulfill God's purpose for our lives.
Perhaps you've never fully recognized or appreciated such strengths within yourself. Maybe you are like my daughter, Olivia, who was surprised and moved when her classmates described her work as "lovely" during a design school exercise. You may be unaware of the beauty and power of the qualities you possess.
Just as Olivia's classmates saw something special in her and her design style, others may recognize strengths in you that you've never fully acknowledged. When people point out various strengths and abilities, take time to reflect on their words and consider how they might recognize aspects of yourself that you may have overlooked.
You can also invite God to reveal your hidden or inner strengths. Ask Him to illuminate the qualities He has placed within you for a purpose. As you seek His guidance, be open to His leading and receptive to His affirmation of who you are in His eyes.
Like David, who encouraged himself in the Lord during times of uncertainty (1 Samuel 30:6), you can find confidence and assurance in God's affirmation of your strengths. Embrace the "lovely" qualities that others see in you and allow them to inspire and empower you to live out your calling with courage and conviction.
Strength Builder of the Day
Reflect on the qualities that others have affirmed in you and think about how they align with the fruit of the Spirit. Consider journaling about moments when you've demonstrated these strengths and how they have impacted those around you. Then, set aside time for prayer, asking God to deepen your awareness of any unseen strengths and to guide you in using them for His glory. Ask God to show you steps you can take to cultivate and express these qualities in your daily life, trusting that He will equip you to fulfill His purposes with confidence and grace.
