Seven Reasons to Not Fear

DAY 6 OF 7

Fear no evil

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)

These words are comforting with certainty of salvation, especially when facing death. Many have found intense delight in repeating them in their final hours.

However, this verse is also relevant to the spiritual struggles we face in life. Like Paul, some of us experience daily battles with inner darkness. Many of us have traversed this dark and dreadful valley multiple times, witnessing the Lord's enabling grace that sustains us amidst its wild thoughts, mysterious horrors, and overwhelming depressions. The Lord has upheld us, keeping us from true fear of evil, even in our moments of deepest despair. Though we have been pressed and oppressed, we have survived because we've felt the presence of the Great Shepherd, confident that His protection shields us from fatal harm.

If the present time is shrouded in the sorrowful shadows of great affliction, let us glorify God by placing our trust in Him, and He will give peace.

About this Plan

Seven Reasons to Not Fear

‘Fear not!’ is an encouragement encountered often in the Bible. This series of devotionals explores seven reasons not to fear. They take you to the prophets, psalms, history of the Old Testament and encouragement found in the New Testament to convince you of God’s power over anything that may cause us to fear. These devotionals were written by the great preacher C.H. Spurgeon, and updated to modern English.
