Overcoming LonelinessSample
The Loneliness of Circumstance
Often, loneliness can start to sneak into our hearts in certain situations. It might be the loneliness felt while surrounded by people but not feeling understood, of singleness, or even loneliness that can accompany motherhood. It can be a strange feeling to navigate when you’re not physically alone but feel emotionally alone.
A lot of things that can contribute to why we begin to feel this way, but it’s much less important to understand why we got to this place and more critical to understand how we can find freedom from it and protect ourselves in the future.
I have spent so much time wishing I had friends who pursued me for coffee, dinner, or even just a chat on the phone or encouraging text. In sharing this desire with my mentor, I learned the valuable lesson that God calls us to be the friend we wish we had. God made us for community and connection, and when loneliness begins to leak into our minds and hearts, it should serve as an alarm bell to engage in our Christian community and reach out!
You can battle against the loneliness of your circumstance simply by being the friend to others you wish you had. You’ll find, too, that being a pursuer of people brings an even deeper level of relationship satisfaction! So, if this is you, here is your challenge:
- Ask someone out for a coffee or a walk
- Send an encouraging text message with godly truth in it
- Join a community group or Bible study with people in your local community
- Pray and ask God to make a way for peace and comfort in your circumstance
If you enjoyed this Bible plan and want more resources on overcoming loneliness, my friends at Strong Roots Podcast recorded an episode about it. You can check it out here!
