Prayer, a Privilege!

DAY 1 OF 7

Being allowed to call on God

“Then men began to call on the Name of the LORD" (Genesis 4:26).

What does prayer mean to you? Prayer can take on many forms. Every prayer is a touch point with God. It can be a deep groan, an outpouring of thanksgiving, or the intense heart-cry to God. And everything in between. This series aims to let you experience something of the gift of prayer.

Genesis 4, verse 26 says: 'In those days people began to call on the name of the LORD.' This was the time after the estrangement created between God and man when Adam and Eve ignored God's command (Genesis 3). The 'uninhibited communication' between God and man was no longer natural. Yet God remained present in the lives of Adam and Eve, and of their descendants because we read that they began to call on the name of the LORD.

To call on someone has the meaning of 'asking someone in because you need help.' The Name is another word for Person. And this Person is the LORD, the Creator of heaven and earth. This LORD we can ask to be with us at all times of our lives. Communion with God was no longer natural after the fall of Adam and Eve. But God did not hide Himself. He allows Himself to be called upon.

Prayer: Thank You, LORD, that I may call on You in all the circumstances of my life.
