Getting Closer to God

DAY 5 OF 5

How does that work exactly?

"I would like to get to know God better and spend more time with Him, but I have no idea how to go about it. I open the Bible and nothing happens. I pray and feel nothing."

Maybe those are exactly your thoughts. You know what? I feel the same way when, caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I only open the Bible "quickly on the side" and pray "quickly on the side."

I know we have a full life. But even in this fullness of our"to-dos,"we can approach our quiet time with a strategy:

  1. Pick a book of the Bible that interests you right now. Perhaps you recently heard a sermon with a Bible verse that spoke to you. Then take a look at the whole book.
  2. Read a passage, no matter how small, but read it consciously. And the next day you read the next small section. Stay in this book. Read it all at once. Then you will see how much power it has in context!
  3. Compare each verse directly with other Bible translations.
  4. Put yourself in the position of the people it is about. For example, put yourself in the disciples' shoes and ask yourself,"Would I have reacted the same way?" or even, "What would it be like if this situation were happening today?"

That sounds doable, doesn't it? There's not a single point in there that seems impossible. If you take these small steps in your everyday life, if you put this into practice, you will experience a difference.

Because: Even small steps toward God will bring you a big step forward!

I will pray for you as you take these small steps that are possible for you. Because I wish, from my heart, that you experience God in a completely new and WONDERFUL way!

Yes: "...being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6 NIV)

You are a miracle!
