God and Me: Devotions from Time of Grace

DAY 11 OF 31

God and My Work

Most of us struggle with inadequate vision--we forget we are immortal through Christ, forget our time on this earth is fleeting, and fall in love with things.

But the reverse is just as bad--to be so heaven-focused that we neglect and ignore the significance of our mission and work right now. Your baptism into the Christian faith was also your commissioning into God's workforce. He calls you royal priests, not just irrelevant placeholders. He calls you to work for him, not just kill time waiting for St. Michael's trumpet.

What you do for him, things great or small, really matters! The example you set, the love you demonstrate, the mercy you show, the values you embrace, the priorities you set, the words you say, the energy you expend all really matter! Many people in your world have not yet encountered the true Jesus--you are the first bit of Jesus they may see. Many people in your world once loved Jesus but have fallen away. Your integrity and joy in your faith might be the tipping point to inspire someone to believe again.

The work you and your fellow congregation members do is of crucial importance in sharing the water of life with thirsty and dying travelers. Israel's great leader Moses helps you pray for God's blessings so that your labors for him can have maximum impact: "May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us--yes, establish the work of our hands" (Psalm 90:17).
