Comfort in Anxiety

DAY 4 OF 7

Fear to fear

“Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 1:8)

Whenever fear creeps in and causes us to hesitate, we risk falling into sin. Conceit is dangerous, but so is cowardice. Be courageous like Daniel. Our mighty leader deserves brave soldiers.

What a compelling incentive for courage we have! God stands by those who stand by Him. He will never abandon us in times of struggle. Are they threatening you? Why fear mortals who are destined to perish? Are you worried about losing your position? Your God, whom you serve, will provide for His faithful servants. Can't you trust Him? Are they mocking you? Will their ridicule break your bones or your spirit? Endure it for the sake of Christ, and perhaps even rejoice because of it.

God is with the righteous, the just, the holy, to rescue them; and He will rescue you. Recall how Daniel emerged unscathed from the lions' den and the three devout youths emerged unharmed from the fiery furnace. Your situation may not be as dire as theirs, but even if it were, the Lord would carry you through and make you more than victorious. Fear fear itself. Be afraid to succumb to fear. Your greatest adversary resides within your own heart. Fall to your knees and plead for assistance, then rise declaring, "I will trust and not be afraid."
