Identity - Who Are You?

DAY 2 OF 6

Who Are You?

I trust that after spending time with the Creator yesterday, you are intrigued to go deeper into the answer to your identity. Every day as you read this plan I want you to remember this statement, "Exact likeness in nature and qualities," from the definition of identity we looked at yesterday. We established that our identity is not wrapped up in what we do but is in the person of Jesus Christ; therefore to know who we are, we must now understand who he is. In the book of Genesis and the story of creation, we see how God the Father created everything by the spoken word, but with the first man, God got involved. He did not speak man into existence, but used His hands and dust from the ground to mold and gave shape to the form of man.

After God formed man, he was only a shape; he wasn't alive. God did not speak the man into life. I get so excited about the awesomeness of humans. Imagine with me for a moment God took a deep breath in and then God blew into the nostrils of man and suddenly, the dead became living. The Bible says, "The man came alive – a living soul" (Genesis 2:7 MSG). God released a part of Himself into man and man became alive.

You are not what you do, but the answer to who you are is – “You are a living soul”. I was not spoken into existence, but I was formed and shaped by the very hand of God, and then the very breath of God makes me alive and continues to sustain me. I get overwhelmed every time I ponder the thought of who I am. It should then come as no surprise what the enemy of our soul, better known as Satan, is after our identity!

Being a living soul sets us apart from the rest of creation and from this point of understanding, we are then enabled to function in our God-given purpose. I often used the excuse of, "I'm only human" to cover my mistakes and live outside my purpose, and the enemy loves it when we downplay what being human means. Being a living soul allows me to commune and have fellowship with God, it enables me to make intelligent and godly decisions and choices, it allows me to have emotions and be moved with compassion and most of all it entitles me to be like Jesus. We are made in the image and likeness of God, all humans are made with a soul, and the soul consists of the mind, will, and emotions. We can think, we have senses to access this natural realm, and we can choose. As you sit at Heavenly Father's feet today may you ponder on the truth that God's very breath is sustaining you right now and celebrate that you are a living soul!

About this Plan

Identity - Who Are You?

In the world, it’s easy for us to question our identities and who we are. We try to fit in and be like everyone else, but the truth is – We are not! Who you are is wrapped up in one Person only, and His name is Jesus. As you read through this plan, I pray that you would find your true self – the one that God created you to be.
