[Give Thanks] Every Day, Grateful

DAY 3 OF 4

Your Guilt Is Removed

We previously considered how Jesus remitted our transgressions. That is a redemption fact. But often, Christians find it difficult to release the guilt that accompanies their memories of the past. Why? Because our enemy, the devil, is the deceiver and liar who cunningly reminds us of our past sins. Satan infiltrates our thoughts with accusations that produce guilt and condemnation.

Guilt can be debilitating, and it can cause mental bondage. Guilt denies the effectiveness of Christ’s work on the cross. Through guilt, the devil attempts to sabotage the joy and peace that belongs to every born again child of God. Many Christians plagued by guilt are hindered from being effective witnesses of Christ among their friends and associates.

The enemy drags out the debris and garbage of our old lives, ignoring the reality that Jesus has assumed our sins in His own body. The accuser tries to reposition that old guilt back on us. It is vital that we understand that the devil is a liar and the truth is not in him. It’s saddening to think of how many Christians have been tricked by the enemy into living with guilt over some area of their past lives.

According to Scripture, we are empowered to resist the devil through faith in what Jesus has accomplished for us. As believers, we can choose to resist feelings of guilt by remembering the grace of God that provided our salvation.

This is a great reason to give thanks. From the time we accepted Jesus Christ, we have been delivered from the guilt of our past sins. We now accept by faith that what Jesus did at the cross was sufficient to deal with all of our transgressions.

Thought of the Day: When the mistakes of my past come to my mind, and I experience feelings of deep guilt and shame, I will resist the enemy and the lies he tells me to condemn me, and thank God for total forgiveness through Jesus. There is no condemnation for me!
