Parenting With Hope: 9 Days of Gospel-Centered Encouragement

DAY 6 OF 9

Day 6 – The Pitfalls of Popularity: Social Acceptance

Our teens face all kinds of challenges in their social worlds, such as social media, alcohol, sexuality, and social issues. These challenges can sometimes paralyze us as parents because we’re deeply fearful of making a wrong decision. It’s tempting to wonder what new danger is around the corner or what is lurking in the next social media app. The reality is that none of us knows. I always take courage from these words in the book of Daniel: “The people who know their God shall stand firm and take action” (Daniel 11:32).

We aren’t powerless against new technology or against cultural compromise. God’s power at work in us is effective. He can keep us prayerful instead of anxious, Word-centered instead of worldly, faithful instead of fearful. Knowing him helps us discern what is best. Our enemy wants to destroy, but Jesus has come that we may have life to the full. He is the hope we have for our children. He can help them to confidently stand firm and take action to do what is right. We can’t always be with them, but God promises, “I will never leave your nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). That’s our better confidence and sure hope.
