Calm My Heart With Prayer

DAY 1 OF 3

(Video and written content are the same.)

God, Are You There?

Is God really listening? It's a question we ask ourselves when we forget what His Word promises.

Just before Psalm 34 was written, David feared for his life and pretended to be insane to escape from his enemies. In our reading for today, he vehemently declares, "This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles."

What a passionate reminder that God answers prayer! When you seek him with all your heart, He promises to answer and deliver you from all your fears. But David explains in today's passage that your deliverance doesn't end there. Your God loves you so much that He delivers you and sends his angels to watch over you.

"The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them." Once, when I was a little girl, my sister and I were sledding down a hill. We somehow got off track, and when it looked like we would hit the wood pile, my sister shouted, “Angels, help us.” Suddenly, at the last minute, our sled shifted. I never really could explain how we kept from getting hurt that day.

You have the protection of angels. That’s how much He loves you. He answers, he delivers, he hears, and he saves. There is no need to fear; your God is near. His army of angels obeys his command, and they are watching over you.

In times of trouble, it's easy to feel like we're alone and that our prayers are falling on deaf ears. But as the Psalmist David reminds us, our God is listening. He is ready, willing, and able to deliver us from our fears. When we seek Him with all our hearts, we can trust that He will answer and send His angels to watch over us.

Calm Your Heart With This Prayer

Father, thank you for delivering me from my fears. When I focus on your goodness, my fears are forgotten, and my faith is strengthened. Thank you for your angels who watch over me and deliver me. Calm my heart and keep my eyes on you, Jesus.

See you tomorrow!
