Day 3: Empowered by Faith in Christ and His Victory

The Book of Joshua unfolds a narrative of triumphs! God's unwavering faithfulness to His promises enabled Joshua to lead a victorious life and guide his people through remarkable accomplishments. Each battle plan, intricately designed by God Himself, was communicated personally to Joshua in an intimate exchange. Joshua consistently made himself available to God, remaining in the sphere of God's presence and His word.

In the same vein, Jesus Christ is hailed as the ultimate Overcomer, and His victory stands as a precious inheritance and a paramount promise for us. Like Joshua, we are called to be overcomers and to guide others on this triumphant path.

Now, let's immerse ourselves in a prophetic psalm authored by David, foretelling the triumph of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is Psalm 110, and let's not merely read it but hear it with faith resonating in our hearts.

"Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."

Psalm 110:1

God promises one hundred percent victory over enemies.

From the Garden of Eden onward, there have been adversaries of the Lord. The conflict between those who walk in the flesh and those who walk by faith traces back to Cain and Abel, marking an ongoing war foretold by God in Eden. This war is between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. Those who live according to the flesh are consistently tempted to launch attacks against those who stand on the promises of God, a theme recurrent in the Bible.

The death and resurrection of Christ dealt a triumphant blow to the enemy, and a day will come when the adversary of men's souls will be cast into the lake of fire and destroyed. Yet, Jesus had already declared to His disciples, "Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you" (Luke 10:19).

According to the verses of Psalm 110, what does God suggest we do to lay His enemies at His feet? "Sit!" Surprising, isn't it? Sit? Can Christ's enemies be defeated this way? It seems counterintuitive! Shouldn't one run, fight, and take an active stance? "Sit" sounds passive!

The spiritual secret lies in WHERE to sit, turning everything upside down! We must be in Christ's dwelling place, and indeed, we are in Christ. This means being at the right hand of Almighty God! This position secures our victory and ensures the enemy's defeat. Furthermore, these verses emphasize that Christ has already fulfilled ALL things and is seated at the right hand of God. He is the executor of our salvation.

Interestingly, this verse delineates our place and the place of Christ's enemies! When we are at the right hand of the Most High Lord, our enemies are at His feet, at His footstool. Enemies may strive to take a different position, attempting to sit on our heads, but that is not their place. How firm and steadfast are we in our position?

Why did the first generation of Israel that left Egypt not succeed? WHERE were they when on the journey to the Promised Land? They were still in Egypt! They were moved by faith to the land flowing with milk and honey. Physically, they departed Egypt, but in their minds, they remained there! Egypt still enslaved them!

Standing in God's promises and recalling them is crucial for our faith's growth. Forgetting these promises leads to envisioning worst-case scenarios, just as Israel did when they left Egypt. They constantly reminisced about Egyptian food, envisioned death in the wilderness, and murmured, "God brought us out to die in the wilderness," adding, "Weren't there enough graves in Egypt?" However, "death in the wilderness" was not God's plan for them, yet God had to allow it due to their unbelief.

Life is filled with battles. Before each battle, standing firm on God's promises is vital. God's paramount message to humanity is, "Do not be afraid!" He repeatedly reassures us in His word, saying, "Do not be afraid!"

Joshua and Caleb stood out from their generation because of their FAITH, and God granted them a glimpse of the victory they had seen by faith during the forty years in the wilderness—VICTORY and the possession of the new promised land.

Take heart, for the victory is ours, and the battle belongs to the Lord.

“For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.”

1. Lift your voice in gratitude for God’s magnificent promises. Craft a psalm of praise that recounts the victories you’ve witnessed with the Lord in the past year, creating a tapestry of His faithfulness and goodness.

2. Where is your dwelling place each day? What is the Lord speaking to your heart about it? What do you need to change to live a victorious life?

1. May our faith be expanded to embrace new horizons, propelling us from one victory to another in Christ.
2. May God grant us the understanding to comprehend the surpassing authority, power, and love of Christ. Let new victories unfold in both our lives and ministries.
