How to Find God in the Dark

Before we begin, let’s start with a moment of silence. Sit. Breathe. Catch your breath. There’s so much noise in our lives that it can be difficult to hear God. So, I invite you to be still, breathe, and allow God to meet you in this space.

Devo: Why in the world would God say to His people, “Fear Not”? Because there are things in this life that are scary! It was true for the Israelites and it’s still true for us.

There are things on this side of Heaven that can scare the pants off of us if we let them. Recently, our family has faced one of those scary things: a cancer diagnosis for our two year-old baby. Fear does not even begin to describe the feelings that I’m feeling. But GOD. He meets us right where we are, whatever we’re facing: a cancer diagnosis, an unfaithful spouse, a lost job, the death of a loved one.

God doesn’t disappear when the bottom drops out on your life. He’s right there with you. He is for you. He sings songs over you. He sent His only son to die on the cross so you and I can be redeemed. His love has no limits. And there isn’t a place we go that He hasn’t already stood.

If you’re afraid, if you’re facing something that seems insurmountable - turn to Jesus. If you don’t have the words, just cry out His name - He’ll meet you right there.

Prayer: Dear God, I’m scared. I don’t know what to do and I don’t know where to turn. But I call out to You to meet me here. I want to trust You. Help my unbelief. Help me stand. Give me Your strength. Thank You that You hear my prayers and You are always with me. Amen.

Thankful: When facing hard times, it can be hard to see past the dark and messy things. We encourage you to look for the things you can be thankful for in this season. Maybe it’s big things, or maybe it’s the little things that make all the difference. Be on the lookout for things to be thankful for this week.
