Advent: Waiting on God's Promises

DAY 6 OF 6

Waiting for a Saviour...

The Israelites knew a thing or two about waiting. They had long been promised a king. Someone who would lead their people to victory and triumph.

Jesus’ birth was foretold long before it ever happened. Isaiah spoke of the coming king and talked about how he would establish and uphold righteousness. He even spoke of how he would be born of a virgin woman.

The Jewish people were good at remembering God’s goodness as they annually celebrated the Passover and held onto the hope of the coming King. But even when Jesus came, His life was not like they expected it to be. Where was the triumph? Instead, there was Jesus. A humble man, not of royal birth, or lineage, often outcast, denied, abandoned, and abused. Yet, here was their king.

It is the same for us. Often what we hope for and what we get are different things. However, thanks to the benefit of hindsight, as we look back, we can see the hand of the Lord at work - leading us, with us.

As we wait for Christmas, let’s take time to look back.

Consider these questions:

1. What are you looking forward to?

2. How will you know when you have achieved/received it?

3. Take some time to reflect on all that God has done over the past year. Write down all the times you can see the Lord working in your lives.

4. Praise him for these things and allow them to build your faith for what more will come!

May this be the greatest gift to you this Christmas - He came!
