A Very Special Child, Isaiah's Prophecy About the Lord Jesus

DAY 7 OF 7

A special name for a special Child (4)

“And His name shall be called… Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6)

The last name that Isaiah mentions, is “Prince of Peace." This makes me think of Psalm 72, where David describes the reign of an ideal king who is righteous, defends the cause of the poor, delivers the needy and crushes the oppressor (see Psalm 72:4). David wants his son and successor Solomon to be like this. He longs for the peace and blessing such a reign will bring.

King Solomon indeed became “greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth” (1 Kings 10:23) and he was “a man of peace and rest” (1 Chronicles 22:9). However, even Solomon did not meet the high standards described in Psalm 72. Nor did any king after him. Consequently, people kept longing for the ultimate “Prince of Peace."

The promised Child will finally bring lasting peace: “Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end…”

This Child has already come. His name is Jesus. He offers us peace. First, peace with God by forgiving our sins. What freedom that gives in your life! And finally, He will also bring peace on a new earth by putting an end to all enmity and evil. What a glorious vision!

Why is peace so important to people? Do you experience peace in your life?

Day 6

About this Plan

A Very Special Child, Isaiah's Prophecy About the Lord Jesus

The Bible tells a lot about the Lord Jesus. There are four Bible books devoted to His life, and later letters often describe Him as well. But even before the Lord Jesus was born, prophets wrote about Him. This reading plan is about a prophecy by Isaiah that tells us how special Jesus is.
