Pause: A Month of Prayer in Five Minutes a Day

DAY 8 OF 30

Proclaim

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Phil. 4:6)

Prompt

I end every day on my knees with prayer. It’s part of a nighttime routine I started when I first got sober and that I now cannot live without.

Each action I take during my nighttime routine builds me toward that final moment with just me and God, the time when I give Him all my burdens, thank Him for all my blessings, ask for help and healing for those I love, and seek His guidance in all my upcoming decisions.

I can say with certainty that I would not be where I am today if not for this routine of nightly prayer. The daily rhythm of seeking an audience with God has formed me for the better, and praying has invited God to move on my behalf countless times.

I preach about praying on your knees all the time. But I still think it’s hard for people. What about you?

Can you humble yourself today, fall to your knees, and pray to your Creator? I know when I do, I’m instantly reminded that I am not God… and that’s really good news!

Prod

Do you have a daily prayer routine? Does it include prayer time on your knees? If not, give it a shot today!

Pray

Jesus, this is how I pledge to fight my battles. On my knees, with my head bowed and my heart surrendered. You are God, and I am not. I need you. Please fight my battles for me today. I give you every single part of me…. ALL OF IT. I surrender. You are KING. Please make me more like you today. Amen.

About this Plan

Pause: A Month of Prayer in Five Minutes a Day

Depression. Loneliness. Comparison. Greed. Addiction. People-pleasing. These are tools of the enemy to steal your calling and rob your joy. In this reading plan, drawn from his book, Lance Lang invites you to neutralize those tools by pausing each day, studying scripture, reading encouragement, taking action, and refocusing your attention on Jesus. Press forward into what God has for you. Press pause.
