Remember Jesus Christ [Knowing Jesus Series] Sample
As we learned yesterday, Jesus Christ is the central theme of the Bible. When reading the Word of God, we can observe how many events and narratives, both historical and prophetic, often carry a direct or indirect reference to Him. The so-called Church Fathers (2nd-8th centuries) saw this relationship in the Scriptures, naming it "the scarlet thread," a title derived from the salvation story of Rahab and her family in Joshua 2.
Thus, in Exodus 12, for example, which records the first Passover, the blood of the lambs painted on the doorframes of Jewish homes represents the blood of Jesus Christ shed to save us from death.
In Leviticus 14, the scarlet thread was part of the purification ritual by which lepers were cleansed and restored to the community. This symbolizes how the blood of the Lord Jesus cleanses us from all sin so that we can enjoy communion with God and one another (1 John 1:7-9).
Indeed, Jesus Christ is the center of the Bible and our faith. Without Him, we would not have access to the Father, and without His work on the cross, we would not have the abundant and eternal life that has been graciously given to us.
God's desire for our lives is that we develop a deep hunger to know Jesus more, to understand who He is. To achieve this, we must approach His Word with devotion and with the confidence that He is with us. He wants to speak to our lives to transform us according to His image (Romans 8:29).
Reflect
How do you think recognizing Jesus Christ throughout the Bible can change your way of studying and interpreting it?
Pray
Lord Jesus, although you are the center of the Bible, I must confess that I have moved you to a secondary place in my life on several occasions. I want to give you all I am and ask for your help in rediscovering you as I read your Word. Amen.
About this Plan
"Can a Christian forget about Jesus?" The apostle Paul encouraged young Timothy never to stop remembering Jesus Christ. Since we live in a world of distractions, we risk losing our focus on Jesus. Through this devotional plan, I invite you to rediscover the importance of knowing Jesus Christ as he is presented in Scripture. The goal is to keep our lives centered on Him until the end.
