Day 7: Clean My Heart, Lord

Create in me a new heart, oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me (Psalm 51:10) Just as the Samaritan woman's heart was cleansed by Jesus, your heart can be too. Sometimes, past hurts and traumas make our hearts cold and bitter. My journey taught me that God wants to heal us deeply and purify our hearts. As I ponder a time in my life when I just bled out and was just doing things to feel loved and accepted, I think about our heart postures and how the heart, as it hurts, becomes cold and bitter. When we are hurt what matters is the hurt no longer has a space to occur again, right? I know that is what we want but there is more than merely healing from our pain when we offer it to Jesus who cleanses the hurt and pain. The heaviness that comes with brokenness in our hearts at times is more detrimental than the actual event that shifted things for our hearts. That is why we need something bigger and higher that will cure beyond the problems. Today, sit with the Lord and pray for the matters of your heart. Let Him cleanse and renew you from within.

Prayer: Lord, cleanse my heart and renew my spirit. Remove anything that is not of You and fill me with Your peace and love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
