Back to the Basics

DAY 5 OF 5

Scripture, the Word of God, is an absolute treasure chest filled with wisdom, guidance, and absolute truth. Reading scripture as a spiritual discipline has a profound impact on our walk with Christ. In every moment, the Bible can serve as our spiritual roadmap through challenges and difficult or unfamiliar terrain -- scripture guides us on our journey with the Lord.

Scripture is not just a collection of ancient texts that are expired or not relevant for the current culture -- it is the living, breathing, powerful Word of God. It holds the power to transform lives! Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." This verse is a necessary reminder that scripture is dynamic and full of power. Scripture is also described in the Psalms as, “A lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Reading scripture illuminates our path, helping us navigate life's uncertainties and pains. It provides clarity when we are in the dark and points us toward the way of righteousness and holiness. In a world often filled with confusion and moral standards twisted left and right, the Bible serves as our constant guide. It reveals the truths and values that should ultimately shape our lives.

It's through the pages of the Bible that we encounter the character of the Lord. We encounter His deep and constant love for us. We experience the revelation of His good and perfect plans for us. When we immerse ourselves in God's Word, we draw nearer to Him. As we read, meditate, and reflect upon scripture, we become familiar with His voice as two hearts align. Just as spending time with a friend strengthens that relationship, spending time in scripture strengthens our bond with God.

For a believer, reading scripture is not an optional practice; it's a vital and life-altering discipline. Just as we need sustenance for our physical bodies, we need the spiritual nourishment that comes from spending hours in the Word of God. As we navigate the constant changes and challenges of life, let us go back to the basics and turn to the Bible as our source of wisdom and strength.
