Preparing for Christmas: A 5-Day Advent Devotional From Worship Togetherნიმუში

SING!
What are some of your favorite Christmas carols? The songs we sing around Christmas time have a way of helping us remember everything about the season. Some songs focus on winter snow, silver bells, or warming up by the fire. Other songs tell fun, pretend stories of flying reindeer, melting snowmen, and grumpy grinches. But of all the fun songs you sing around this time of year, there is nothing that brings us joy quite like singing a song about the birth of Jesus. There are songs about every part of the Christmas story. The shepherds, the wise men, the angels, and even the manger, have songs about them that help us remember the important role each of them played in the Christmas story. It is not only fun to sing these songs, but also important because they point to the truth that Jesus came to save us.
Singing about the birth of Jesus is not a new thing. Songs have always been sung about the Christmas miracle of Jesus. When Mary received the news from the angel, Gabriel, that she was going to be the mother of the Son of God, she responded with a beautiful song where Mary praised God saying, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” Mary’s joy overflowed into singing because God was going to use her to accomplish something great. We are called to that same purpose—to glorify God with joy overflowing by obeying His Word and living a life that celebrates Jesus every day. This season, worship God and celebrate the Christmas story, singing with all your heart just like Mary did.
