Living on Purpose: With God as Your Center

DAY 3 OF 6

Day 3 | God Cares about You

If you don’t think God has your best interests at heart, you will have a hard time stepping out in faith. Why take risks for someone who might hang you out to dry at any moment?

In The Sacred Romance, authors John Eldredge and Brent Curtis wrote, “The things that have happened to us often suggest that the real script of the play we’re living in is ‘God is indifferent’ rather than ‘God is love.’” However, transformative witness flows out of a heart that is captivated by God’s presence, faithfulness, and love.

Think back to yesterday’s reading from Romans 8. God did not spare his own Son. He gave up his own Son for you. If God loved you enough to do that, doesn’t he love you enough to be involved in the details of your life?

Peter tells us to cast all our anxiety on God, because he cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). That includes our work challenges, by the way. Mark Greene, Executive Director of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity says, “Your work matters to God because you matter to God.”

In Psalm 34:9-10, the author writes, “Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.” I’ll admit, sometimes my reaction to reading that is, “No, they don’t.” And I have to ask myself, Okay, what do you lack, really? Be honest. That always opens my eyes to the goodness of God that I take for granted.

For Reflection

Read Matthew 6:25-34.

To what extent do you see the same level of concern from God about the details of your life?

What difference does it make to believe that God cares for you in the midst of your daily routine?

Ask God to open your eyes to his love for you and faithfulness towards you.
