DAY 2 OF 5

WONDERFUL COUNSELOR

As our wonderful counselor, Jesus speaks to the wholeness and completeness to our lives that only He can provide. When you think about a counselor, you may think about sitting on a couch in a really small room across from someone with a notepad, taking down all the thoughts that you are thinking and processing mentally. This, however, is not the type of counselor that Isaiah would have been talking about. The word “counselor” in Isaiah 9:6 means to advise, purpose, or plan. This means that the coming Messiah would give us guidance and wisdom on the way we should direct our lives.

Many people today are searching for a peaceful or happy path to life and want to know what steps they can take to live a fulfilled and purposeful life. You’ll find millions of books on Amazon teaching you how to live your best life, but I’ve always wondered: if these gurus really found the path to life, why is there always some new philosophy to replace the one before? If there is a way to life, fulfillment, and purpose, it wouldn’t need to constantly change. If it’s true, it wouldn’t need to be reinvented. It would just always be true. Our Wonderful Counselor is our path to that life. In John 14:6, Jesus tells us:

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 ESV)

Jesus orders our steps and guides us to the only way of Eternal Life. When we feel we’ve lost our way, our Wonderful Counselor is always present to get us back on course.
