Real Hope: A Study of Acts 24-28

DAY 5 OF 7

The Hard Yes

If God asked you to do something that you knew would be hard, would you do it?

In Acts 27, we read about Paul’s journey to Rome so he could stand trial before Caesar. Boarding a boat with other prisoners on his way to Rome, Paul would have known that it wasn’t going to be a comfortable journey. Despite this, we read that Paul not only willingly went, but he also cooperated and tried to be helpful. When he recognised the weather shifting and a storm brewing, he tried to warn the captain, not so he could prevent being taken to Rome, but to keep everyone safe. When Paul found kindness in Julius who allowed him to leave the boat and visit with friends, he didn’t take advantage of that and run away, but came back to the boat to continue the journey.

Every step of the way, Paul had a choice to make. He didn’t always have great options, but he still had options. And each time, he made the choice to say yes to God’s will and direction, regardless of the cost to him. He knew that God was going to use him, and he trusted that God was with him. Years later as we read Paul’s writings, we can see just how much his obedience paid off.

Whilst our lives may not be as extreme as Paul’s, we can learn from his example of obedience and faithfulness. When saying yes is hard, like Paul we can say yes knowing that God is with us every step of the way. We can say yes knowing we are doing it for Christ, and that alone is worth it. If He’s asking you to do the hard thing, will you say yes?

About this Plan

Real Hope: A Study of Acts 24-28

This plan follows some of Paul’s story and encourages us to never give up on God. When the going gets tough, we need to keep our hearts tuned to Him, respond when He calls, and then be courageous in using our testimony to spread the good news. Be challenged by Paul’s life and remember that if God calls you into a tough situation, it’s for a purpose!
