Promises in the Psalms

DAY 16 OF 46

Promises: Forgiveness

Sin sits heavy on the soul. Our failures never wander far from our minds. With the memory…comes the guilt. Sin keeps us chained to shame and regret. And as long as we keep silent, we stay…tethered. That’s what David experienced.

Psalm 32:1-7
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

For David, the guilt of sin took a physical toll on his mind, body, and soul. He experienced the weight of God’s heavy hand upon him. He described sin draining his energy like the sun affects our stamina on a hot summer’s day.

Worn out by sin, David turned to the only One who could bring relief. When he confessed his sin, God “forgave the guilt.” God removed the heavy burden and replaced it with his peace. David declared that God was his hiding place, his means of protection and deliverance. Forgiveness delivers freedom! When we confess our sin, God will do the same for us.

Father, my sin is heavy. I am tired of carrying it around and covering it up. I confess my sin to you. I ask for your forgiveness. Please replace the guilt with songs of deliverance. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
