Real Hope: Redemption Story

DAY 2 OF 7

Big Picture

The three verses above, one each from the Old Testament, the Gospels and the book of Revelation, contain the elements of what we call the Redemption Story, which is a single-story theme woven throughout the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation that explains the main purpose of God’s dealings with mankind.

Simply put, this story is about mankind’s sin and its remedy. In this case, it starts with an animal (possibly a lamb) being sacrificed to provide skins to cover Adam and Eve’s nakedness but alludes to and ends in mankind’s sin being covered with the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

If you’re learning this for the first time, you might be wondering what it all means. We all start the Christian journey ignorant of spiritual truth and wisdom. Initially the Bible makes little or no sense. But as we read and ask for the help of the Holy Spirit, we finally get the picture, and what a picture it is! For mature Christians, the single-story theme only deepens and broadens into a massive river of grace and revelation as we read and reread the scriptures and live a life ‘through faith in His [Jesus’] blood’ Romans 3:25a. Go ahead, take the simple step to ask God, ‘Please show me the whole story’.

About this Plan

Real Hope: Redemption Story

“God loves us and will search for us when we are relationally lost from Him. When we return to God’s love, all heaven rejoices. We are found, forgiven and loved. That is redemption.” (The Redemption Story – Kath Henry). If you feel far from God, meditate on these devotions and let them open your heart to God’s saving grace and His heart for the lost.
