NO SPIRIT BUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
At Mercy Culture, we often pray this prayer: “No spirit but the Holy Spirit is welcome here.” Prayers like this exalt the Holy Spirit above any other spirit present in the room, which makes them flee! Whether it be the spirit of fear, spirit of religion, or anything else, we know from 1 John 4 that not every spirit we feel, sense, or hear is from the Lord.
John writes in verses 1-3, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.” Scripture instructs us to test the spirits to see whether they are from God. How do you know they are from God? They always point to Scripture! The problem comes when we lend an ear to those taunting spirits instead of what the Holy Spirit says over us. In 1 Corinthians 12:1, Paul lists the different spiritual gifts that come from the Holy Spirit. One of those is the gifts of discernment or the ability to discern what Spirit is from God and which is not! As we pray, no spirit but the Holy Spirit, we’re taking spiritual authority over who can and can’t speak to us. Holy Spirit is the only Spirit that should be allowed to minister to you! Welcome Him to speak to you daily!
What spirits have you opened yourself up to throughout your life? Have you been attacked by witchcraft? A spirit of heaviness or anxiety? A spirit of fear? When you are at your lowest, what kinds of words do you hear the enemy saying over you to kick you out and disqualify you? Right now the Lord wants to expose the spirits in your life that you’ve allowed to speak into you. Ask Holy Spirit for the spiritual discernment to shine light and expose the enemy! Darkness can’t stay when you invite the presence of God. Invite Holy Spirit into the room you’re in and pray, “No spirit is welcome here, but the Holy Spirit!” Submit yourself to the Holy Spirit and watch the devil flee from you!
Pray: Holy Spirit, fill me. No spirit, but the Holy Spirit is welcome in my life! Father expose the enemy and any way he’s been lying to me. Reveal to me Your truth. Close any open doors to spirits in my life that aren’t of You. Give me discernment to see what is from You and what isn’t. I trust You, Lord, and I give You the entire room! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
