Miracle in the Making: 5 Devotions for Expectant Moms

DAY 2 OF 5

Fear can feel like a tangible, living monster that is coiled inside of us, ready to devour us whole. It can seem overwhelming and stifling, blocking our view of the future and stealing away all the joyful moments and thoughts that we might have about pregnancy. It’s normal to feel afraid when you’re carrying something so precious inside. Your child is so small and vulnerable in these months of growing in the womb. You might be afraid of losing that little life. Or maybe you’re struggling with an overwhelming fear of the future and what it looks like to be a mom. Perhaps you feel afraid of the months of pregnancy to come and whatever hardships could be in store. Each woman will carry different fears unique to her, but all fear can become an overwhelming burden.

Read the story in Matthew 14:22–33. Peter was afraid when he stepped onto those waves, and he allowed his fear to overwhelm him and drag him down into the depths of the lake. He put his attention on his fears rather than on his Savior, Jesus, who was with him in the midst of the storm the entire time. When Peter shouted, “Lord, save me!” Jesus was there in an instant with a hand outstretched to pull him from the waves of his fear.

This story is a reminder that, sometimes, God calls us into a rocky place where we don’t feel in control. Pregnancy can feel like a rocking boat in the middle of the storm. But Jesus is always there with us. He’s with you right now, offering an outstretched hand when you feel like you're drowning in fear. Keep your eyes on Jesus and allow His peace and presence to console those fears within you.

Lord, the fears are rising up against me, and it makes me feel like I'm drowning. Help me keep my eyes on You today and off the things I cannot control. Thank You for promising to be with me in the storms. Amen.
